What is a Certified Peer Specialist ?

 A peer Specialist is a person who is actively engaged in his/her own recovery, and who volunteers or is hired to provide peer support services to others engaged in mental health treatment


A Certified peer specialist is an individual living in recovery with mental illness and/or substance use disorder or a family member who has been trained and certified by their local Department of Behavioral Health to assist others in recovery and wellness.
