It is very important that the people that provide our services also take great care of themselves. Having a WRAP document is a great way of keeping track of your daily maintenance, sharpening your wellness tools, monitor the signs of when things are breaking down, and other events that occur in our lives that may need our undivided attention.

Crisis planning for Healthcare Providers

Crisis planning for healthcare providers is no different than for anyone else. Remember "Healthcare Provider" is simply a job description or titlte. Anyone can experience a crisis no matter what type of work you may perform. Although people in certain professions may not announce the onset of a crisis, that does not mean the crisis does not need the same level of attention as ours may need.

Post-Crisis Planning for Healthcare Providers

Years ago when I first started receiving mental health counseling, I was being treated by a husband and wife team of pschiatrist. After several months of getting thearpy from either the husband or the wife or sometimes both, the wife passed away in a car accident.

Her husband, Dr. Harrady appeared distressed and grieved for at least five monhs before taking off from work for another five months. Before he returned to work at the clinic full time, he would come in once or twice a week. Then he would facilitate one or two groups a month versus his daily groups.

This is appears to me that he was slowly amking his way back to business as usual. he appeared to be working at a pace that was comfortable and supportive until he could get back to his daily and monthly activites.

This is a sample of post-crisis planning. Once a crisis is over and it does not matter rather you are a healthcare provider or someone being treated by a healthcare provider, planning to take care of yourselfIf after a crisis is over or has subsided is VERY IMPORTANT!
